My Relative Speaks at the RNC

I was moved to hear Cindy McCain share her testimony of adoption during her speach at the Republican National Convention last night.  She told the story of two Pakistani girls that she had brought home — Nikki and Bridget.  Cindy and John McCain adopted Bridget and raised her.  Wes Gullette and his wife adopted Nikki who suffered from severe malnutrition.  Wes was asked to share the story of their daughter’s adoption at the RNC.

Wes’s great aunt was my Great Grandmother — Lola Walker Amick Brewer Weldon.  Grandma Weldon died in 1995 at the age of 98..  The story of these adoptions is a moving tribute and I thought some of you might want to see it.

A Peggy Noonan Classic and an Update

I’m a major Peggy Noonan fan.  The former Reagan speech writer is a current Wall Street Journal editorialist.  You should read her recent editorial regarding the Republican convention in general and Sarah Palin specifically — it’s a classic.  You can read it HERE.

Wednesday evening update….

If you’ll follow the comments below, you’ll discover that Ms. Noonan “stepped in it” (pun intended) after I had posted the link above when she uttered a barnyard epithet into an open mike as she discussed the choice of Mrs. Palin by McCain.  She has posted her version of her choice of words and what she says she intended HERE.  Frankly, I’m not as gullible as I was when I read her first thoughts on the topic du jour earlier today.  She’s an extraordinary wordsmith and she uses her craft to “spin” what she said when she thought she was “off the record”.  My thoughts on her explanation — horsefeathers.  (My mother raised me well.)
